Wasteful Barca drop more points

LaLiga

FC Barcelona's shaky start to the LaLiga season continued after playing to a goalless draw with Cadiz on Thursday evening.

Sergi Roberto, Eric Garcia and Philippe Coutinho dropped to the bench after Monday's draw as Oscar Mingueza, Gerard Pique, Gavi were given starts.

Ronald Koeman's men were certainly in for a tough game, having failed to win on their last two visits to the Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla, including a 2-1 loss in December lost.

The opening stages proved to be quite a dull affair despite Barcelona's domination, as the home side were quite happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.

While the home side barely offered anything going, their tactical plan did need a change seven minutes before the break as Jens Jonsson replaced Fali Jiménez, who had been stretchered off.

The second half got off to a lively start as Alvaro Negredo forced Marc-Andre ter Stegen into a fine save before Memphis Depay squandered a glorious chance at the other end after being picked out by Luuk de Jong.

Barcelona's attempt to get the breakthrough suffered a blow on 67 minutes when Frenkie de Jong was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the encounter.

The hosts looked to take advantage of the numbers game but squandered a good chance on 83 minutes when Jonsson was denied by Ter Stegen in a one-on-one situation.

Seven minutes later, Barcelona should have wrapped up the points but Depay somehow placed his effort wide from close range after being teed up by Pique, forcing the visitors to settle for a point.
