Is This Real's R3bn Mbappe alternative?

Reports in Spain suggest that if Paris Saint-Germain refuse to sell Kylian Mbappe in this window, Real Madrid will break the bank for Erling Haaland instead.

Mbappe is understood to be Los Blancos' top target for this transfer window, but if it becomes clear the Ligue 1 club will not let go of the forward, Real president Florentino Perez will not hesitate to try to sign the Borussia Dortmund attacker instead, according to Marca.

Haaland, who is said to have a price tag of £150 million (R3 billion) slapped on him by BVB, has been widely linked with a move to Chelsea, but as talks between the Premier League side and the Bundesliga club continue to stutter along, the LaLiga giants are preparing to swoop in and hijack Thomas Tuchel's No. 1 striker target if they deem it necessary.

PSG are said to be intent on keeping Mbappe beyond next season, while Real seemingly believe otherwise and are hoping to welcome him to the Santiago Bernabeu by 1 September, when the Spanish transfer window closes.

It is understood that Los Blancos are banking on Les Parisiens deciding to sell the France sensation towards the end of this window in order to avoid losing him for free after the 2021/22 campaign. If this does not transpire, though, they will then move for Haaland, per Marca.

Mbappe has also reportedly made it clear to PSG's hierarchy that he has no intention of staying at the club after his contract expires in June 2022, but the Ligue 1 outfit is not giving up without a fight.

Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told L'Equipe in June: "I will be clear, Mbappe is going to stay in Paris, we will never sell him and he will never leave on a free."

How Al-Khelaifi plans to keep the 22-year-old beyond next season remains unknown, but it has been reported that Mbappe could be offered a massive new contract with wages that could rival Neymar's at the Parc des Princes.
