Koeman furious over Messi contract leak

FC Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has furiously called for heads to roll after details of Lionel Messi's mega-contract were leaked to the press.

Over the weekend, Spanish publication El Mundo leaked intricate details of Messi's contract with Barcelona in which it was revealed that the Argentine forward sign sport's most lucrative contract of all time in 2017, worth around €555 million (R10 billion) across four years.

Both club and player have since threatened legal action against the publication and opened an investigation to discover the identity of the person who leaked the contract, and manager Koeman has called for heads to roll.

"Whoever has leaked Messi's contract cannot have a future at Barca," the Dutchman said following Barcelona's 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, per Goal. "What has come out in the press about Messi was done maliciously.

"We have to try to know how this could have come out in the press. We have to concentrate on our season. The team's been fine lately. We won a lot of games. We don't have to focus on this issue, but there are people who want to hurt Barca and Leo.

"Messi has been demonstrating his quality as a footballer for years, has helped a lot to make this club great and has helped a lot to win titles."

Barcelona are currently said to be on the brink of bankruptcy and the club's financial position has cast further doubt on Messi's future at the club, with the six-time Ballon d'Or winner having already been linked with a move away when his contract expires in June.
