Barca targeting African superstar

Having seemingly been priced out of a move for both Neymar and Lautaro Martinez, FC Barcelona have now reportedly turned to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a bid to bolster their attack.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barca have turned their attention to Arsenal striker Aubameyang as their "Plan B" signing in the event they are unable to reach an agreement with Inter Milan for Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez.

Blaugrana chief Josep Maria Bartomeu has previously admitted that the club was not in a financial position to re-sign Neymar and, with Inter demanding a figure of around €111 million (R2.1 billion) for Martinez, a deal for the 22-year-old is looking increasingly unlikely as well.

Aubameyang, however, is entering the final year of his contract with the Gunners, and could be available at a more affordable rate for Barca. The Gabon forward is reportedly tempted by the idea of playing for the reigning LaLiga champions and could push through a transfer if the Blaugrana act on their interest.

The 31-year-old has scored 64 goals in 104 appearances since joining Arsenal in January 2018, and shared last season's Premier League Golden Boot award with fellow African stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
