Barcelona plotting Setien exit?

LaLiga

Six months after FC Barcelona controversially sacked former manager Ernesto Valverde, the LaLiga giants are now reportedly plotting his replacement Quique Setien's exit, with a successor already said to be lined up.

Despite guiding Barca through the UEFA Champions League group stages without defeat, and with his side sitting atop the LaLiga standings, Valverde was sacked in January after reportedly losing the faith of the dressing room.

It was later reported that the Catalan giants had planned to replace the 56-year-old with former player Xavi, but the club legend's reluctance to take the job behind Valverde's back ultimately resulted in Setien being handed the position instead.

Now, just over six months into the job, the ex-Real Betis boss appears to be facing the axe after a string of disappointing results saw Barca relinquish their lead at the top of the table to rivals Real Madrid.

According to Goal, Setien will be sacked at the end of the season unless he is able to turn his side's fortunes around, with it being suggested that winning the league title might not even be enough for him to save his job.

If the 61-year-old should leave, Barca are once against expected to approach Xavi to fill the role, and the former Spain international, who is currently in charge of Qatari side Al Sadd, recently admitted that it is a job he has preparing himself for.

"The biggest hope I have now is to be Barca coach and get Barca back to winning ways," Xavi told Sport.

"...I'm a club man. I would like to return at the right moment to start a project from zero. I've said it a lot of times but I want to take footballing decisions at Barcelona.

"It's clear that after the elections the stage would be set, of course. I'm not ruling anything out. They came for me in January, we were speaking. I told them the circumstances and timing weren't right."
