Barca boss: Dembele must sign or leave now

FC Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has sent a strong warning to Ousmane Dembele amid reports suggesting that the winger could leave the club.

Late in December, it was reported that the winger had rejected a new contract offer from the Blaugrana, and was intent on leaving the club when his deal expires at the end of the season.

Following that rejection, it was reported by Mundo Deportivo that the LaLiga giants had given Dembele a 48-hour window on Monday to decide what he wants to do with his future.

It was further claimed that if the Frenchman decided to leave, or not answer at all, Barca would search for a potential suitor in the remaining days of the January transfer window.

Xavi has now echoed a similar sentiment, with the contract stand-off seemingly beginning to frustrate the Spaniard.

"Dembele? We are in a complex and difficult situation," the 41-year-old told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, per Barca Universal.

"We can't wait for him. Either he renews or a solution (to sell him) must be found. We will decide tomorrow.

"I don't consider sending him to the stands. He says he wants to stay but then he does not sign the contract.

"I can't give Dembele more confidence. He has the upper hand and he has to decide.

"Dembele tells me that he wants to renew, that he wants to continue… I have been very clear: either he renews or we find a way to sell him in January, in the interest of the club."
