'The diving in LaLiga is a disgrace'

In a rant that surprised many on the weekend, a former Real Madrid and Manchester City manager branded LaLiga as a "disgrace" due to the "most time-wasting and dives" taking place in it.

Real Betis head coach Manuel Pellegrini has had a stuttering start to the 2021/22 league campaign, with his men drawing their first two games, against Mallorca and Cadiz, to leave them with just two points so far.

The Chilean set high standards in the 2020/21 season when he guided Betis to a sixth-place finish and UEFA Europa League football.

Now seemingly under pressure, though, Pellegrini lashed out during a post-match press conference on the weekend, saying LaLiga sides owe it to their fans to stop diving and focus on playing football.

"We have to make an effort between referees, coaches and players so that LaLiga is not this shame because in the referees' meeting, they told us that it is the slowest league in Europe," the 67-year-old said, per Goal.

"People want to watch a show, and we're not giving it to them.

"The most time-wasting, the most dives, it's a disgrace.

"There is a show that we have to take care of. People pay a ticket for something."
