Spain playmaker David Silva has completed a shock move to Real Sociedad after a glittering decade of success at Manchester City.

Silva, 34, who is widely considered as one of the greatest players in Premier League history, won 13 major titles over his ten-year spell in Manchester and will be rewarded with a statue outside the Etihad in 2021.

The technically gifted midfielder who symbolises the success of the Citizens in the modern era was strongly linked with a move to David Beckham's Inter Miami and was said to have agreed a move to Serie A with Lazio.

However, LaLiga outfit Real Sociedad hi-jacked the free transfer at the last minute as a replacement for Martin Odegaard, whom Real Madrid recalled early from his two-year loan spell.

Sociedad confirmed the 125-time capped La Roja legend has signed a two-year contract and their website notably crashed after announcing the deal that came as a complete shock.

The four-time Premier League winner scored 77 goals and registered 140 assists in 436 games across all competitions after joining the club from Valencia in 2010 in a deal worth €28.7-million.
