Alves clarifies Neymar's Barca exit

Brazilian defender Dani Alves has responded to claims he persuaded Neymar to leave FC Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

Alves made the switch from Juventus to the French capital in 2017 and was joined by his countryman soon after as PSG paid a world-record fee of €222 million.

The Brazilian is now back at the Camp Nou after being unveiled this week, but reveals it was Neymar that convinced him to join PSG not the other way around.

“It is the opposite of what people believe, I am grateful to Neymar because it was he who convinced me to sign for PSG," the Brazilian defender told Mundo Deportivo.

"I have had nothing to do with his arrival. My only advice was to tell him to be happy.

"I swear by my children, that I have nothing to do with the decision."

Alves will only make his return to the Barcelona first team from 1 January 2022, as his contract with Sao Paulo was only terminated in October.
