Barca 'identify' Coutinho replacement

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has reportedly identified a replacement for Philippe Coutinho after he joined Aston Villa on loan.

The Villans confirmed on Tuesday evening that the Brazilian had completed his medical ahead of his reunion with ex-teammate Steven Gerrard.

The 29-year-old left on loan after a difficult time at Camp Nou, where his reported €135 million (R2.3 billion) price tag might have overshadowed his performances in Spain.

It is believed that Villa will pay less than 50% of Coutinho's weekly wage and bonuses, with an option to buy included in the attacking midfielder's loan deal.

With that being said, the latest reports from Brazil are suggesting that the LaLiga giants are already planning for life after the South American’s exit.

Former Chelsea star Oscar is believed to be the player that is being courted as the Catalan giants seemingly already made contact with the player about a potential move, according to TNT Sports.

However, the Brazilian outlet adds that progress has been difficult due to the high wages the midfielder reportedly earns with Shanghai SIPG and his long-term contract that only expires in 2024.

This could prove to be a stumbling block for Barca as their reported financial issues continue to affect the side’s ability in the transfer market.
