Barca chief hints at more signings

Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed that his side will continue to be active in the transfer window after signing Ferran Torres from Manchester City.

The Blaugrana made the most expensive transfer ahead of the window when they announced that they had acquired the services of Torres on a five-year deal in December.

This was a signing that was unexpected after the club’s well-documented financial issues led to Lionel Messi not being able to renew his contract with the Catalan giants, while many first-team stars had to take wage cuts in the previous transfer window including Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets.

However, Laporta revealed at Torres’ unveiling that the club’s money trouble was a thing of the past and insists that the club can rebuild a team capable of competing with Europe's best teams.

"Everybody in the world should get ready because we are back as big players in the market. Barcelona are back," the 59-year-old president proclaimed to the reporters.

"We continue to be a reference in the football market.

"Everyone else should prepare themselves because we're back.

"We are a reference point, that is why Ferran is here. We are re-emerging.

"The winter market is tough.

"We don't need to borrow more [money], we already have enough.

"Today or tomorrow we will register Alves and we hope to register Ferran as soon as possible. We don't have the CVC [LaLiga agreement money] available in the winter market."
