Atletico Madrid are reportedly targeting two players from cross-town rivals Real Madrid for next season.
Spanish striker Diego Costa is believed to be on his way out of the club when the transfer window and Diego Simeone is looking for a suitable replacement.
Spanish publication La Razon report that Los Rojiblancos are now looking a double transfer for Mariano Diaz and James Rodriguez.
Both Diaz and Rodriguez have found game time hard to come by this season, with the former now seen a potential replacement for Costa.
Despite being cross-town rivals, the two clubs have engaded in tranfers recently, with Marcos Llorente switching the Santiago Bernabeu for the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium this season.
The report did add that Atletico are expected to offload a number of players, as the squad number will increase to 37 once the loan players return.
Mariano has only made four appearances of the bench for Zinedine Zidane this season, with his only league goal coming in the 2-0 win over FC Barcelona.
