Ateti 'agree terms' for Suarez teammate

Atletico Madrid are said to be on the verge of signing Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira on a season-long loan.

Diego Simeone's outfit have reportedly reached an agreement with Torreira and the Gunners over the short-term move, which, according to Goal, will include the option of a permanent transfer next season.

It is claimed the only thing holding up the move at the moment is the LaLiga side's need to offload other players before making the deal official, with the club reluctant to put pen to paper until it has done so.

Among those who are expected to leave is Mexico midfielder Hector Herrera, who has been linked with a move to Zenit St. Petersburg, and Thomas Lemar, who has emerged as a target for Bayern Munich in recent days.

Should Atleti go through with their approach for Torreira, the 24-year-old would become the club's second Uruguayan signing of the season following the acquisition of international teammate Luis Suarez earlier in the window.

Los Colchoneros have also been linked with a move for prolific La Celeste striker Edinson Cavani, who is currently a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain towards the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
