With FC Barcelona having included a staggering release clause in new signing Memphis Depay's contract, we take a look at some of the biggest buyout clauses in the game today!
Last week, the Blaugrana announced the signing of Netherlands forward Memphis Depay from Olympique Lyon on a free transfer.
As reported by Diario AS on the weekend, a mammoth release clause of €400 million (R6.8 billion) was inserted into the 27-year-old's two-year contract with the LaLiga giants in case any club tries to sign him within the next couple of years.
In Spain, it is mandatory for a release clause to be included in a footballer's contract, and so it has become normal for the likes of Barca and Real Madrid to include steep buyout clauses in their players' deals to minimise the chances of them signing for a rival.
