The top 10 most expensively assembled squads in world football has been revealed with Manchester City making history by reaching the €1 billion mark.

Data from the Swiss-based CIES Football Observatory showed that City, led by Pep Guardiola spent a staggering €1.014bn on their current crop of superstars.

Not even the Paris Saint-Germain, who hold the world record transfer holder in Neymar, could match the Premier League champions as they rank second having spent €913 million.
Premier League rivals Manchester United are the second-most expensive squad in the Premier League followed by Champions League winners Liverpool - who also amassed a record points total for a runners-up team last season.
This study follows a report from accounting firm Deloitte that revealed the European clubs from the top-five leagues splashed over €5bn during the summer transfer window for the first time.
According to ESPN, the report stated the Premier League average was €345m while La Liga and Serie A both averaged €167m.
