The reasons for the 39-year-old’s visit were made clear by the Paraguayan police force. Wealthy casino owner Nelson Belotti invited the former PSG star to take part in a number of public events and meet fans and dignitaries with media broadcasters.

Currently banned from leaving his native Brazil due to building an illegal fishing trap, for which he was fined a hefty £6.5m [R128.8m], he has been restricted from leaving the country by Brazil's Superior Court of Justice because of his inability to pay the fee.

Despite accepting a role as Brazilian tourism ambassador, his role is limited within the borders of the country.
