FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has been approached for a sensational transfer at the end of the current season, according to reports in Spain.
In the wake of Messi's contract clause that allows him to leave at the end of every season after the 2019/20 campaign, rumours of a potential return to Argentina or a switch to Major League Soccer has been mooted in the media.
And Barcelona Radio has since stated that England legend David Beckham has sounded out the five-time Ballon d'Or winner as a marquee signing for his new club, Inter Miami, that will launch in the MLS next season.
Journalist Xavi Campos of the Spanish station claims the 'huge' deal is said to 'interest' the Barca club-record goalscorer.
English publication The Sun also cites that Beckham has been in search of a global football superstar to lead his side for their inaugural MLS season - with Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani all listed as potential targets.
Despite Beckham's side holding the financial muscle to offer the elite level contracts needed to secure Messi, who could walk away from the Blaurgana without compensation - the LaLiga champions remain unperturbed.
Barca chief Josep Maria Bartomeu insists the club are keen to keep their attacking talisman until 2022 at the very least, while Mundo Deportivo recently suggested the club are ready to offer Messi a lifetime contract.
