Pitso's Al Ahly reclaim second spot

World News

A brace from Junior Ajayi guided Pitso Mosimane’s side Al Ahly SC to a 2-1 victory over El Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday evening.

Fresh from a defeat to Simba FC in the CAF Champions League, Walter Bwalya started from the bench in favour of Mohamed Sherif as Mosimane targeted a return to winning ways.

However, the start was not what Mosimane anticipated as Gaish grabbed the lead four minutes to the half-hour mark with a superb free-kick from Ahmed Samir.

Although, the away side’s advantage was cancelled in the matter of minutes through a clever header from Ajayi after he peeled off a ball from Mohamed Magdy Afsha.

A tentative start to the second period from the respective outfits saw little in the way of clear-cut scoring chances in the last third.

In order to change the complex of the match in the midway phase of the second half, Mosimane made three changes all at once in Bwalya, Taher Mohamed and Mahmoud Kahraba.

Kahraba missed a golden chance to put Ahly ahead in the latter stages with a close-range shot from a surging ball into the six-yard area after Gaish failed to cover their defensive patterns.

The Cairo Red Devils lived dangerously minutes before time from a one-on-one involving Nasser Mansy, but goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy made an excellent save.

Ahly continued to push for the winner thereafter and struck gold right at the death when Ajayi completed his brace with a simple finish from Bwalya’s initial attempt, as the Red Devils jump to second spot.
