Cristiano Ronaldo urged to join Wolves

English Premier League

Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been urged to join Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers as speculation surrounding his future continues to grow.

Ronaldo, 35, has been linked with a move away from Turin after reports emerged this week suggesting that the Bianconeri were considering whether or not to offload the Portugal star at the end of the season.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been linked with a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain and a return to Manchester United, but former Premier League star Troy Deeney believes a move to Wolves could be a better option due to their strong Portuguese contingent.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are currently home to no fewer than nine Portuguese players, including established internationals such as Rui Patricio, Pedro Neto, Ruben Neves, Nelson Semedo and Joao Moutinho.

"I think I was more looking at a club like Wolves with the Portugal connection, that would probably work," Deeney told talkSPORT when asked about Ronaldo's future.

"Whoever is getting him is getting an unbelievable talent. This season, I think six in four he has already got in Serie A. You are not going to get the same Ronaldo you had at Manchester United. I think that's always going to be the comparison."

The Watford striker was also quick to downplay suggestions that Wolves were beneath the Bianconeri star's level, highlighting the ambitiousness of the project the Premier League side has undertaken in recent years.

"I like Wolves. It is the odd one out [but] if he went to America and went to LA Galaxy, we would go 'oh, that's a bit strange'," he added.

"I think Wolves are creating something there with the players that they have, where they will push for the top six in the next few years.

"Then, of course, as I said, the Portugal connection and there are so many positives. If you want to go to the next level, then that's the player you need to go for."

While a move to Wolves appears unlikely for Ronaldo, it would not be beyond the realms of possibility given the relationship he shares with agent Jorge Mendes, who has played an influential role in developing the club's Portuguese connection.
