Ronaldo closing in on Golden Shoe

Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo netted for an eighth consecutive Serie A game to see him close in on the European Golden Shoe, as Lionel Messi fell further behind in the race.

Ronaldo, who turns 35 next month, netted in a late consolation for the Serie A leaders in their 2-1 defeat to Napoli which took his overall tally to 17 league goals in 18 games.

His remarkable scoring form of 12 goals in the eight-game run means he's now scored one goal every 93 minutes in the Italian top-flight after scoring just five in his first 13 games prior.

Title-rivals Inter drew 1-1 with Cagliari to miss out on the Bianconeri's slip-up with star striker Romelu Lukaku not adding to his impressive 14 strikes, but he remains within the top 10 scorers.

Meanwhile, Messi drew a blank as new head coach Quinque Setien suffered his first LaLiga defeat since replacing Ernesto Valverde.

Four other players across Europe's top-five leagues remain on 14 goals with the record six-time Ballon d'Or winner, while Premier League stars Sergio Aguero (16) and Jamie Vardy (17) rank ahead of him.

The rest of the list comprises of Bundesliga hitmen Timo Werner and Robert Lewandowski, while Lazio's Ciro Immobile rounds of the top 10.
