Real Madrid to bid £50m for EPL star

International Transfers

With new Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti aiming for a title charge next season, Los Blancos are reportedly ready to bid £50 million (R990 million) for a certain Premier League striker.

The Spanish giants are understood to be set to raid Ancelotti's former employers Everton for forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin as they look to bring in competition for Karim Benzema, according to The Sun.

The England striker joined the Merseyside club from Sheffield United in 2016, and established himself as the talisman of the Toffees' attack under the Italian tactician's guidance last season, scoring 21 goals and providing four assists across all competitions for Everton in that campaign.

The 24-year-old's progress has not gone unnoticed, with a number of top clubs across Europe, including the LaLiga giants, believed to be chasing his signature.

Real are rumoured to be looking to offload two strikers in order to fund a move for Calvert-Lewin – Serbia star Luka Jovic has failed to live up to his reported £52.4 million (R1 billion) price tag in his two-year stint with the Spanish club to date, while former Olympique Lyon striker Mariano Diaz, who is linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, has scored just two goals in the past two seasons for Los Blancos.

Another Real forward Borja Mayoral, who is currently in the middle of a two-year loan spell at AS Roma, could also soon be sold in a permanent deal to the Serie A club.
