Barca 'target' R596m Germany defender

International Transfers

FC Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has reportedly set his sights on a Germany defender who has impressed at the 2020 UEFA European Championship.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens is the next signing the Dutchman wants to make as Barca plan a title charge in the 2021/22 campaign.

However, they face stiff competition for the player's signature, with Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus all said to be interested in signing the Germany star.

The 26-year-old has been integral to Atlanta over the past few years, amassing 87 appearances in the past two seasons and eventually earning an international debut and a regular spot in Die Mannschaft's starting XI.

This is not the first time Koeman is attempting to secure Gosen's services – he reportedly approached the defender, who was eligible to represent both Germany and the Netherlands before making his senior international debut, about changing his allegiance during his tenure as the Dutch team's manager.

Gosens decided to reject the offer at the time, but could be tempted to join up with Koeman at the Camp Nou, and the Blaugrana are said to have made contact with his agent, with a €35 million (R596 million) price tag being mooted.

Koeman changed his defensive formation to a back five last season, and reportedly sees Gosens as an ideal fit as 32-year-old Jordi Alba is seemingly not yet comfortable with the new wing-back role and is also getting to the latter stages of his career.
