Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on a Spanish striker as a potential alternative should they fail in their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.
The London club has been linked with the best strikers in the world of late, such as Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Haaland, but with the Tottenham Hotspur star rumoured to be on his way to Manchester City and the Belgian having confirmed his commitment to Inter Milan, the club's options have narrowed.
With Haaland wanted by many of the top clubs in the game, Fichajes has now reported that Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has earmarked Villarreal forward Gerard Moreno as a "plan B" if a transfer for the Norwegian cannot be negotiated with Dortmund.
Moreno, 29, has gone from strength to strength in the latter years of his career, achieving his best goalscoring season in the 2020/21 campaign with 30 strikes across all competitions and helping his side claim the UEFA Europa League title.
Tuchel is said to be impressed with the striker's performances over the past year and sees him as an immediate fit for his plans with the team.
With the Blues aiming to mount a title charge in the 2021/22 season, they will want to improve their striking options, especially as current Chelsea stars Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner only managed to score 12 goals each across all competitions in the previous campaign.
