Cristiano Ronaldo netted a 10th international hat-trick to help Portugal cruise to a 5-0 victory over Luxembourg at the Estadio Algarve in Group A.
Ronaldo slotted in two penalties in the opening 20 minutes, with Bruno Fernandes chipping in with a goal in-between.
Joao Palhinha got in on the act in the second while late finish from Ronaldo put the match to bed.
England 1-1 Hungary
England were unable to extend their sequence of wins in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying journey after battling to a 1-1 draw against Hungary in a Group F clash on Tuesday.
The visitors stunned the host with the opener from Roland Sallai, but it lasted a few minutes as Manchester City defender John Stones clawed the Three Lions level.
It’s a point that keeps the host who lead Group I with 20 points well on course for the finals next year in the Middle East.
Denmark 1-0 Austria
Denmark qualified for the World Cup finals next year following a 1-0 win over Austria on Tuesday at the Park Arena in a Group F clash.
With eight wins from eight matches, the Danes become only the second European nation after Germany on Monday to book a spot at the finals with two matches to spare.
Atalanta’s Joakim Maehle provided the winning strike of the match earlier on in the second half after the first period finished goalless in Copenhagen.
Sweden 2-0 Greece
Sweden stamped on top spot in Group B with the help of a 2-0 victory over a ten-man Greece at the Friends Arena in Stockholm.
Emil Forsberg’s second-half penalty and Alexander Isak’s finish thereafter gave the Swedes victory, while Greece had Pantelis Chatzidiakos dismissed and trail the Swedes from third spot.
Albania 0-1 Poland
Poland beat Albania to second spot in Group I thanks to a late 1-0 win over at the Arena Kombetare in the city of Tirana.
The winner happened late in the second half and it came courtesy of Karol Swiderski, as a goalless draw seemed on the cards.
