Alexander-Arnold makes EPL history

English Premier League

On the night of Liverpool's coronation as the 2019/20 Premier League champions, star fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold rewrote his name into the league's history books.

As he has done for large parts of the past two seasons, Alexander-Arnold played a starring role for the Reds on Wednesday evening, recording a goal and an assist from fullback during his side's 5-3 triumph over Chelsea.

The 21-year-old scored Liverpool's second goal of the night with an expertly taken free-kick in the first half, before assisting Roberto Firmino for the Brazilian's first goal at Anfield this season in the second stanza.

Alexander-Arnold's performance will have been overshadowed by the crowning ceremony that followed the match, but his assist on the night saw him break a Premier League record that he himself had set last season.

The England star, who has now won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League with Liverpool, has 13 assists this season, which is the most by a defender in the competition's history.

The Reds have never lost a match in which Alexander-Arnold has recorded an assist (34 assists across 27 matches in all competitions) and the new benchmark breaks his tally of 12 assists from last season, which earned him official certification from Guinness World Records.
