'Fergie would bench Pogba & Bruno'

Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba look set to become a star duo for Manchester United but a former Red Devil claims they wouldn't have made it into Sir Alex Ferguson's starting XI.

Fernandes and Pogba represent two of the biggest investments United have made in recent memory with combined transfer fees that could reach up to €185-million.

While Pogba has been subject to criticism since being lured back to the Premier League from Juventus, the supreme talent of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has never been in doubt.

The arrival of Fernandes in January, in particular, has created a new wave of optimism for the midfield duo to usher Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's in an exciting new era with the Portugal international already contributing six goals and four assists in his first 13 games.

But former Cameroon star Eric Djemba-Djemba, who played under the tutelage of Ferguson between 2003 and 2005 suggests they wouldn't have broken into the Red Devils starting line-up during their golden era.

"Fernandes and Pogba would definitely have been on the bench behind [Roy] Keane and [Paul] Scholes," he told BettingApps.com. "Those two were amazing together. Roy Keane was like a coach, as a manager to the team."

While Djemba-Djemba concedes that Pogba's criticism has been warranted, he feels he still has the potential to engrave his name into history books if he can remain consistent.

"I think that Paul Pogba can still get a lot better. He still a young lad, and we can still expect better things to come from him," the 39-year-old said.

"Now you will see, with Matic and Fernandes, Pogba will become a world-class player again. He needs them to push him, to tell him that he can do these things, to turn him into an even better player."
