Mane to help Liverpool hijack City deal?

English Premier League

Liverpool are reportedly planning to use Sadio Mane in a bid to hijack Manchester City's move for Kalidou Koulibaly.

The reigning Premier League champions are said to be in the market for a new central defender following Dejan Lovren's move to Zenit St. Petersburg, and appear to be intensifying their efforts following injuries to Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

French publication Le Parisien has now claimed that Jurgen Klopp's side is trying to use Mane, who is an international teammate of Koulibaly's with Senegal, to convince the 29-year-old defender to snub City in favour of a move to Anfield.

The Napoli star has reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Manchester side, but no official agreement has been reached, with the Serie A outfit said to be holding out for a figure of about €80 million (R1.5 billion) for his services.

Should Liverpool and Mane be successful in their attempts to turn Koulibaly's head, the France-born star would become the club's second-most expensive signing of all time, behind fellow centre-back Virgil van Dijk, who joined the Reds for a figure of €85 million (R1.6 billion) in 2018.
