The Serie A side looked dead and buried in the first-leg of their European Cup quarter-final against Barca after losing 4-1 at the Nou Camp, but rallied in sensational style at home in the return fixture to record a 3-0 win and progress on away goals.
Roma will now have to replicate the feat if they are to progress to the final after suffering a 5-2 hammering against Liverpool in the first leg of the semi-finals at Anfield in midweek, meaning they require another 3-0 success at Stadio Olimpico next week.
Former goalkeeper Monchi believes this is well within the Italian outfit’s reach, telling Onda Cero: “We’re how we were against Barcelona, although I’d say it was harder against Barcelona.
“We know it’ll be very difficult [to come back again], but we’ll play with pride and try to make it happen.
“Barcelona are similar or better than Liverpool so why can’t we? We have to take the chances that fall our way.
“Ninety minutes at the Olimpico are very long, so hopefully we can repeat what we did against Barca.
“We were facing a very complicated team, we knew we couldn’t mess up and that we had to avoid being caught on the break.
“We didn’t do well in transitions or in terms of defensive vigilance. When you concede five goals, it means you’ve done many things wrong.”
