Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk may have come second for the 2019 Ballon d'Or but a Premier League rival has named three defenders who are 'better' than the Netherlands international.
Van Dijk has emerged as one of the few superstar defenders in modern football and held a personal record of not being dribbled past in 50 consecutive games before Nicolas Pepe of Arsenal snapped the run on 24 August last year.
The 28-year-old who joined Jurgen Klopp's side from Southampton in 2017 in a reported £75-million has completely transformed the Reds, who lifted the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League and on the cusp of Premier League glory.
But this hasn't stopped Everton forward Richarlison from having a dig at the physically imposing defender ahead of their Merseyside derby on Sunday.
"People talk a lot about him [Van Dijk]. Yes, he is a great defender, but I've already dribbled past him," the Brazil international told Desimpedidos.
"He was chosen as one of the top three in the world as he had an excellent season, but yes, for me, there are better defenders. Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Sergio Ramos [are better defenders].
Liverpool need six points to secure their first league title in three decades and Van Dijk will be looking to help them secure three points against their fierce rivals at Goodison Park on Sunday.
