Ramos calls players-only meeting

English Premier League

With pressure mounting on Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, club captain Sergio Ramos reportedly called a players-only meeting this week to address Los Blancos' on-field struggles.

The reigning LaLiga champions have endured a difficult start to the 2020/21 campaign, and are currently seven points adrift of league leaders Real Sociedad, while the club is also fighting to stay in the UEFA Champions League following a shock defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

After Real's defeat to the Ukrainian giants, which has left the club needing to win their final group stage match against Borussia Monchengladbach to progress, Ramos reportedly called a players-only meeting to address the side's poor run of form.

Daily Mail h/t AS has reported that Zidane was not present during the meeting, in which the 33-year-old Spain international stressed the club had overcome bigger challenges and that their fate remained in their own hands.

"We are one victory away from getting through in the Champions League, we depend on ourselves, and we have to give everything," Ramos is reported to have told his teammates. "This is Real Madrid, gentlemen. Together, we've come out of worse."
