Wolverhampton striker Raul Jimenez has suffered a fractured skull after a collision with Arsenal defender David Luiz at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Jimenez' injury damped the mood of Wolves after their memorable 2-1 win over Mikel Arteta's side as he was stretchered off in the opening five minutes of the game after lengthy treatment.
The clash of heads resulted in Luis wearing a bandage over his head before being replaced at the break, but the Mexico international who received oxygen as he left the pitch after 10 minutes of treatment has suffered a horrific injury.
"Raul is comfortable following an operation last night, which he underwent in a London hospital," the Premier League club confirmed on Monday.
"He has since seen his partner Daniela and is now resting. He will remain under observation for a few days while he begins his recovery.
"The club would like to thank the medical staff at Arsenal, the NHS paramedics, hospital staff and surgeons who, through their skill and early response, were of such help.
"The club asks that Raul and his family are now afforded a period of space and privacy before any further updates are provided in due course."
The 29-year-old who was subject to offers from Manchester United and Juventus during the off-season has scored 48 goals and registered 18 assists in 110 games since his loan arrival in July 2018 which was made permanent for €38-million.
