Manchester United failed to close the gap on the Premier League leaders Manchester City with a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.
Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial featured for United, who had goalkeeper David De Gea back between the sticks with Dean Henderson relegated to the substitutes’ bench.
However, West Brom stunned the Red Devils two minutes in as a ball over the top from Conor Callagher allowed Mbaye Diagne to send a smashing header past De Gea.
West Brom came close to double their tally with a header from Robert Snodgrass following a teasing ball into the area by Conor Townsend, but De Gea held ground to tip the attempt over the bar.
Sam Allardyce’s men continued to trouble the Red Devils a little before the break as a quick counter-attack from a corner-kick targeted Diagne, but Luke Shaw hurried back to avert the danger.
The Baggies rued their earlier misses on the stroke of halftime after Fernandes clawed the visitors’ level with a smart volley from a teasing cross by Shaw.

Allardyce rang the changes ahead of the second half, as Darnell Furlong entered for Lee Peltier with the Red Devils opting to stay unchanged.
United received a penalty on 62 minutes following a foul in the area on Harry Maguire, but after a careful review the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) overturned the spot kick.
A goal-line clearance from the Baggies in the last 20 minutes saw Kyle Bartley scoop away a half-volley from Scott McTominay following a loose ball in the six-yard area.
United missed another big chance in stoppage time when goalkeeper Sam Johnstone pushed Maguire’s header onto the post, as it ended 1-1 at the Hawtorns.
