Man United humiliate rivals Leeds

Manchester United climbed up to third in the Premier League standings after trouncing Leeds United 6-2, with Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes both netting twice on Sunday evening.

Man United made five changes from the win over Sheffield United, as goalkeeper David de Gea was recalled alongside Luke Shaw, Fred and McTominay, while Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic dropped to the bench.

McTominay gave the Red Devils a perfect start after firing them ahead in the second minute with a smashing low strike from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner after he was teed up by Fernandes.

The Scottish midfielder doubled the lead for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's charges a minute later and grabbed his brace with a low strike across goal towards the bottom corner after a through ball by Anthony Martial.

Fernandes made it 3-0 for Man United in the 20th minute with a smashing low shot past shot-stopper IIlan Meslier after he latched onto a loose ball inside the box.

Leeds were getting disorganised at the back as Victor Lindelof added a fourth goal for Solskjaer's men eight minutes before the break with a side-footed volley after escaping his marker at the back post from a corner.

Marcelo Bielsa's troops pulled a goal back with three minutes left of the first stanza after Liam Cooper powered a header past De Gea from around the penalty area after a corner.

Leeds also came very to getting a second goal back five minutes after the halftime break when De Gea pulled off an unbelievable save to parry away Raphinha's volley at the back post.

The hosts were running riot in the 66th minute as James made got his name on the scoresheet with a low strike between the legs of Meslier after turning brilliantly to go clear on goal from McTominay's pass.

Fernandes made it 6-1 for Man United with a composed low strike towards the bottom corner from the penalty spot to complete his brace after Martial was brought down inside the box by Pascal Struijk.

Leeds were not dropping their heads as Stuart Dallas reduced the deficit to 6-2 in the 73rd minute with a stunning curling strike from the edge of the box that looped over De Gea and sailed into the top corner.

Second-half substitute Edinson Cavani had a chance to make it 7-1 for the Red Devils in the last five minutes after going through on the right side of the box but his shot was saved by Muslier with his legs and the French shot-stopper denied James on the rebound, as the Red Devils jumped to third spot.
