PL title race takes another twist for Reds

English Premier League

Liverpool's title hopes were dealt a heavy blow after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday evening.

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp made two changes from the midweek win over Villarreal, as Jordan Henderson came in for Naby Keita in midfield while Luis Diaz also replaced Diogo Jota on the left-wing.

Meanwhile, visiting boss Antonio Conte went with only one alteration from the 3-1 home win over Leicester City last time out, with Dejan Kulusevski preferred to Lucas Moura on the right-wing.

The hosts had the first attack of the evening as Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a cross to the back post with Andy Robertson nodding it back across, but Sadio Mane couldn't get enough contact on his acrobatic effort and Tottenham cleared.

In the 22nd minute Robertson curled a corner over from the left and Van Dijk timed his jump perfectly to get his head to it, however it was a poor attempt and went well wide.

Hugo Lloris made a vital stop to deny Mohamed Salah at the back post after Ryan Sessegnon inexplicably headed across the face of his own goal.

Both sides hit the post shortly before halftime. First, Virgil van Dijk's towering header crashed off the top of the bar and went over, before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's low drive hit the outside of the left post.

Spurs took the lead in the 56th minute with a brilliant flowing move. Harry Kane surged towards goal, before laying it to his left to Sessegnon, who pulled it back to Son in the middle, who stroked it into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The visitors almost doubled their lead soon after when Emmerson Royal swung a cross to the back post and again Sessegnon pulled it back to Son, who this time couldn't get his feet sorted out in time and it went into the side-netting.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp made it a four-pronged attack by bringing in Diogo Jota for Jordan Henderson and the plan worked when the hosts levelled the scores in the 74th minute when Diaz's effort from 25 yards out took a wicked deflection off Rodrigo Bentancur before finding the bottom corner.

Spurs had a wonderful opportunity to win it right at the death. Royal found Hojbjerg in the box, who was poised to nod the ball to an unmarked Kane, but he got the header all wrong as the side shared the spoils.
