Chelsea silence Spurs in London derby

English Premier League

Chelsea broke a four-match winless run in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Thomas Tuchel made two changes to the Chelsea side with Malang Sarr replacing Marcos Alonso and Matteo Kovacic coming in for N'golo Kante. Meanwhile, Spurs boss Antonio Conte made four alterations as Steven Bergwijn, Ryan Sessegnon, Erick Dier and Matt Doherty came in for Lucas Moura, Oliver Skipp, Sergio Reguilon and Emerson.

Romelu Lukaku had a fantastic opportunity within two minutes but scuffed his effort in the box over from Mason Mount's accurate cutback.

Thiago Silva then planted a header over the bar from a corner and then Mount and Ziyech exchanged passes before the former crossed to the near post for Lukaku, who couldn't sort his feet out and missed the ball completely when it could have been a close range tap-in.

Chelsea broke the deadlock just two minutes after the interval. Callum Hudson-Odoi was allowed to surge down the left flank before cutting back inside and laying it off to Hakim Ziyech who got the ball out of his feet and curled a sublime effort into the top left corner.

Soon after, Ziyech's searing shot from pretty much the same position brought a fine diving save out of Hugo Lloris and then Mount flashed an effort narrowly over the crossbar with Spurs looking rattled after going behind.

The Blues doubled the lead in the 55th minute. Dier brought down Hudson-Odoi on the left. Mount delivered the free-kick and Thiago Silva glanced a header into the back of the net.

Soon after, Spurs captain Harry Kane burst down the left flank and scooped the ball into the box. It came back out to Skipp, who headed into the path of Bergwijn, but his effort on the swivel was saved by Kepa.

Lukaku, who had been largely ineffective, then outmuscled Davinson Sanchez and lined up an effort from the left-hand side of the box, which Lloris beat away.

Spurs were pushing hard to try and find a way back into the game as Kane threaded a pass to Bergwijn on the edge of the box, but the Netherlands international mishit his first-time effort and it went tamely into the hands of Kepa.

Soon after, Kane came close when he peeled off his marker at a corner and planted his header towards the top right corner but Kepa got across well to push it away.

However, it was too little too late as Antonio Conte suffered his first Premier League defeat since taking charge of Spurs.
