Tuchel gets first win as Chelsea boss

English Premier League

Thomas Tuchel got his first win in charge of Chelsea, who defeated Burnley 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Tuchel handed a surprise start to Marcos Alonso while Timo Werner, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi were also recalled.

The Blues dominated from the onset, although they only had tame shots from Werner and Matteo Kovavic to show for their efforts in the opening 30 minutes.

The hosts squandered a great chance to take the lead midway through the first half when Alonso headed the ball to the far post, where Abraham and Mason Mount collided with only Nick Pope to beat.

The breakthrough eventually arrived five minutes before the break when Hudson-Odoi teed up Cesar Azpilicueta, who sent a fine strike into the top corner.

While Burnley struggled to carve out chances, the Blues went agonisingly close to bagging a second goal 10 minutes into the second half as Hudson-Odoi saw his strike deflect onto the upright.

Burnley head coach Sean Dyche threw on Johan Gudmundsson and Joel Mumbongo as the visitors looked to claw themselves back on level terms.

However, Alonso ended any hopes of Burnley getting back in the back after double Chelsea's lead in the 84th minute with a superb strike into the back of the net to wrap up the win.
