Auba linked with shock EPL move

English Premier League

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been linked with a shock Premier League move amid his recent omissions from Arsenal’s match-day squads.

The 32-year-old's future at the Emirates remains unclear after Mikel Arteta decided to strip him of the captaincy following multiple disciplinary breaches.

Since then, Aubameyang has not featured for the Gunners and the latest report from the Mirror suggests that Newcastle United are ready to pounce on the situation.

The Tyneside club are reportedly eyeing a loan deal for the outcast with an option to sign him for £20 million (R431 million) at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The opportunity to cash in on the African forward could interest the Arsenal hierarchy as the striker’s contract is set to expire at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Eddie Howe’s side currently finds themselves in the relegation zone after winning just one league game all season and will want to kickstart their fight to avoid dropping to EFL Championship with Aubameyang leading their line.

According to Spotrac, the forward earns £350 000 a week (R7.5 million) which could prove to be a stumbling block in their pursuit as Newcastle’s highest earner is believed to take home a modest £86 538 (R1.8 million) a week.

If the deal were to be agreed, the Magpies will have to wait for the Gabonese striker to return from the Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to finish in February.
