Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho has been linked with a shock return to the Premier League with the Reds' crosstown rivals Everton.
Everton appear set to pull off a major coup after reportedly agreeing a deal in principle to sign Brazil midfielder Coutinho from FC Barcelona for a cut-price fee.
The 28-year-old, who has endured an injury-plagued season thus far, joined Barca from the Toffees' rivals Liverpool in January 2018 in a deal worth up to £142 million (R2.8 billion), but could return to Merseyside for as little as £35 million (R699 million) next season.
Reports from The Sun claim that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is monitoring Coutinho's recovery before committing to a transfer, but hopes to partner the playmaker alongside James Rodriguez next season.
The former Inter Milan star has struggled to hit top form at the Camp Nou and Barca are said to be willing to cut their losses in the upcoming window, even if it means suffering a £100 million loss on their record signing.
Coutinho has previously been linked with a return to Liverpool but, with a reunion failing to materialise, may now consider a move to Goodison Park in order to play in the Premier League again.
