Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has refused to be drawn on speculation linking soon-to-be out of contract FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi with a move to the Etihad Stadium.
Messi is currently free to speak to other clubs about a potential move after entering the final six months of his contract with Barcelona and has been strongly linked with a reunion with former boss Guardiola.
The 33-year-old spent four seasons playing under the Spaniard during their shared time at the Nou Camp and is widely believed to be considering a move to England, where City are among the favourites to land his signature in the event that he elects to leave the Blaugrana.
However, Guardiola is remaining mum on any potential deal and refused to comment on rumours surrounding the six-time Ballon d'Or winner's future.
"He is a player for another club, I'm sorry. Always I try to answer your questions but I'm not… he is a player from Barcelona," Guardiola said, per The World Game.
"About the transfer market, you know my opinion, it's about Txiki [Begiristain, City's director of football]. I don't like to talk about players who are not here or players maybe extending their contract.
"Always I believe the best way to talk about this is behind the scenes because my comments will not solve or break some deal, especially the players who are not here. I respect a lot all the players who play in other teams."
City face intense competition to land Messi's coveted signature with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan also touted to be among the other sides in the running to lure the Argentine superstar away from the Catalan giants.
