Newcastle to appoint ex-PSG boss?

English Premier League

With Newcastle United reportedly edging closer to appointing a new manager, a former Paris Saint-Germain boss is now said to be a leading candidate for the club's hot seat.

Having parted ways with Steve Bruce last month, Newcastle are yet to find a replacement, but the club is planning to announce a new manager this week, per the Daily Mirror.

The Magpies are just one of two Premier League sides that have not registered a single win in the league so far in this campaign, and find themselves second from bottom after 10 games.

Ever since the new Saudi owners took over the reins from Mike Ashley early last month, several managers have been linked with the job, including Frank Lampard, Lucien Favre, Eddie Howe, and Steven Gerrard, among others.

However, according to the Mirror, former Arsenal and PSG boss Unai Emery is the latest manager being seriously considered by the club's hierarchy.

The Toon will reportedly hold final interviews this week as they look to have a new boss in charge by Saturday, ahead of their tie against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Villarreal manager's previous stint in the English top flight came with the Gunners, and while he lasted just 19 months at the helm, he did take the London club to the UEFA Europa League final against Chelsea in the 2018/19 season.
