The French fullback, who remains behind bars after he was denied bail on a few occasions, made his first court appearance in August, and two further charges of rape have now been laid against him for offences said to have been committed between October 2020 and August 2021, per the Crown Prosecution Service.

According to Manchester Evening News, at a previous hearing at the magistrates' court, Mendy's legal representative Christopher Stables said that his client strongly denies all the allegations put forward against him.

The player was suspended by City pending the criminal investigation against him once his alleged transgressions came to light.
