Mohamed Salah accused of diving

English Premier League

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has once again been accused of diving following the reigning champions' Merseyside derby defeat to Everton over the weekend.

Liverpool recorded a fourth consecutive home defeat in the league, and their first loss to Everton at Anfield since 1999, after suffering a surprise 2-0 reversal on Saturday evening courtesy of goals from Richarlison and a Gylfi Sigurdsson penalty.

Prior to the Toffees netting their second goal, Reds star Salah thought he deserved to be awarded a penalty after going down in the box under a challenge from Lucas Digne, but referee Chris Kavanagh was not convinced.

Following the match, former Everton defender Kevin Ratcliffe was quick to criticise the Egyptian forward of attempting to deceive the match officials and suggested that he should have been booked for simulation.

"I can’t understand that," Ratcliffe said of the incident, per talkSPORT. "If he’s claiming a foul there and the referee doesn’t think it’s a foul why isn’t he saying, 'well, you’re diving'. There was a little bit of contact but there wasn’t as much contact as the dive suggested."
