Manchester United have parted ways with highly-rated midfielder Angel Gomes, who confirmed his exit as a free agent on Tuesday evening.
Amid ongoing speculation surrounding his future, Gomes took to social media on Tuesday to finally confirm that his 14-year affiliation with the Red Devils had come to an end following the expiration of his contract with the club.
The 19-year-old reportedly turned down an offer to extend his stay at Old Trafford in pursuit of more regular game time and, according to French publication RMC Sport, has signed a five-year deal with Ligue 1 side Lille.
Gomes, who was the first player born in the 2000s to play in the Premier League, will not spend the season in France, however, with it being reported that he will be loaned to Portuguese side Boavista for the 2020/21 campaign.
The England youth international joined the Red Devils' famed academy in Carrington at the age of six and went on to make 10 appearances for the first team.
He made his debut for United in 2017 – the same year in which he helped England win the U17 FIFA World Cup – when he replaced club legend Wayne Rooney during a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
