Man Utd transfers: Potential ins & outs

English Premier League

Following reports that Manchester United's new boss Ralf Rangnick will have £100 million (R2 billion) to spend in January, here are some potential incomings and outgoings that could take place at Old Trafford in the new year.

The Red Devils were the second-biggest spenders in the game in the most recent transfer window after securing Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho's signatures, according to Transfermarkt.

Despite that reported €140 million (R2.4 billion) outlay, it appears the Glazer ownership is ready to spend big again in January, with the Daily Mirror stating that Rangnick will be given a £100 million war chest for the upcoming window.

The first player on the German coach's radar is said to be RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara, who is understood to have a buyout clause of £33 million (R691 million) in his contract. The 63-year-old knows the Mali midfielder from their time together at Red Bull Salzburg.

If that pursuit is unsuccessful, the Manchester club could turn their attention to FC Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, with El Chiringuito recently claiming that Xavi Hernandez is ready to part ways with the Dutch midfielder for the right fee.

While Rangnick is expected to recruit a few new faces in the new year, he could also part ways with as many as five players.

Edinson Cavani is one of those who could be on his way out, with the forward having made it clear he wants an exit from United if he is not going to receive regular game time amid interest from potential suitors, per the Mirror.

With Paul Pogba's contract set to expire at the end of this season, this leaves the EPL giants in a tough predicament whereby they may accept a reasonable offer for his services in January as opposed to losing him as a free agent in June 2022.

Jesse Lingard is another star who is likely to exit Old Trafford after rejecting a new contract from United in November, with both West Ham United and Newcastle United believed to be strongly interested in his services.

Prior to Rangnick's appointment to the Red Devils' helm, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial were also expected to find new clubs at the turn of the year, and it remains to be seen if anything changes under their new interim boss.
