Man Utd stars 'split' over Rangnick

English Premier League

Manchester United's stars are reportedly split over the appointment of their new interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

The German tactician was officially announced as United's new head coach on Monday for the rest of the 2021/22 campaign, to be followed by another two years as a consultant for the club.

Since being linked with the role, though, Rangnick has come in for criticism from some who are confused as to how a coach with one major trophy to his name, the 2011 German Cup with Schalke, has got the Red Devils job.

With that being said, the players are also reportedly starting to have their own differences of opinion when it comes to the manager.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the dressing room is split regarding the appointment of the 63-year-old, with some players excited to start playing under him, while others are cautiously waiting to see how his methods would apply to some of the biggest names in the team.

Per ESPN's Rob Dawson, some United players felt previous boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's preferential treatment of Paul Pogba was unfair, and will seemingly be hoping this does not happen with their new manager.

There have also been suggestions that Cristiano Ronaldo might not fit into Rangnick's preferred "gegenpressing" style of playing, having faced criticism recently after statistics produced by The Athletic showed the Portuguese forward's inefficiency in pressing the opposition.
