Fergie surprised by United decision

English Premier League

Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be surprised by the club's decision to not persue one of the breakout stars of the new Premier League season.
United have endured their worst start to a English top-flight campaign in over three decades and currently languish in 12th place after eight rounds of fixtures.
Currently 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool, who they face next after the international break, one of the Red Devils glaring issues have been in midfield.
And Ferguson is believed to have pondered the club's decision not to chase Aston Villa star John McGinn, who has lit up Villa Park since his arrival from Scottish Premier League side Hibernian in 2018.
According to Motherwell scout Bobby Jenk, the 13-time Premier League winning manager felt his compatriot could have thrived at Old Trafford.
"He's up there with the best-performing midfielders in the division," Jenks told The Athletic. "Wait until he’s had a year at that level and then we can say more.
"What I do know is that Sir Alex Ferguson is wondering why Manchester United let a talented Scottish boy slip through.
"He'll be keeping a close eye on him that’s for sure and if he continues the way he is, you can bet he’ll be telling his pals at United, too."
The 24-year-old midfielder has scored three goals and registered one assist in eight games in the league this season.
