Manchester United have confirmed the sale of Netherlands international Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Bayer Leverkusen.

On Wednesday, United announced that Fosu-Mensah, 23, had joined the Bundesliga side on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee. Local media report the deal to be in the region of €1.5 million (R27 million).

"Manchester United defender Tim Fosu-Mensah has completed a permanent move to Bayer Leverkusen for an undisclosed fee," the club said in an official statement.

"The 23-year-old will embark on a fresh chapter of his career in the Bundesliga after agreeing terms and passing his medical with the team currently sitting in third place in the German top flight..."

Fosu-Mensah made 30 appearances for the Red Devils either side of loan spells with Crystal Palace and Fulham, and becomes the second player to depart this month after Ethan Laird joined MK Dons on loan.
