Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with Chelsea over the signing of France international midfielder N'Golo Kante.
United are aiming to do some late business in the transfer window after showing signs of defensive frailties and weaknesses on the right side of their attack after missing out on deals for Jadon Sancho and Sergio Reguillon.
While speculation is increasing that they may revive the Sancho negotiations with Borussia Dortmund, the Daily Mirror claims the Red Devils have reached out to their domestic rivals over Kante's signature.
Kante, 29, started in Chelsea's 3-3 draw against West Bromwich Albion but is believed to be open to a move away from the London giants with Frank Lampard not seeing him part of the Blues long-term plans.

However, his current £250,000-a-week wages may prove to be the major stumbling block in what would be considered as a panic buy at this stage of the window.
The report further adds that manager Ole Gunnar Solkjaier has identified the diminutive midfielder as the ideal signing to allow the likes of Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes enjoy more creative freedom.
Kante has won three major titles for the Blues since his £32-million arrival from Leicester City in July 2016.
