Ole issues strong De Gea statement

Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opened up about the future of David de Gea after several questionable displays this season.

The Spain international goalkeeper developed a reputation as one of the best keepers in world football at the Premier League giants but has been susceptible to glaring errors over the past two years.

In what many have now claimed to be more than a confidence issue, the likes of Argentina number one Sergio Romero and Dean Henderson, currently on loan at Sheffield United, could be viable options to replace the 29-year-old.

De Gea's latest gaffe in the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final has been put heavily under the microscope regarding his long-term future but Solksjaer is refusing to entertain talk of his notable struggles.

"This is not going to become a David De Gea press conference," Solskjaer said ahead of the West Ham clash, as per ESPN.

"We are just going to stick together. David's mentally strong enough to know his job is to perform in training the next day and be ready for the games."

The Red Devils boss went on to reiterate that it's not about individuals but rather what would be best for the team to achieve their targets for the remainder of the current season.

"It's your job to talk about it and write about it and my job is to prepare a team for West Ham," he said. "We're not going to talk about individuals because no one here will fear we put more pressure on them."

"Every position is a big one here so you've got to do what is right for the team and the club. We'll do that on Wednesday, we'll do that on Sunday [against Leicester] and then when the season's finished we'll make more decisions."

The three-time United Player of the Season winner has featured has conceded 41 goals in 40 games while keeping 14 clean sheets in all competitions during the 2019/20 campaign.
