Pogba 'excited' over transfer target

English Premier League

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is said to be 'excited' after being informed about head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's off-season transfer target.

Pogba look poised to leave United at the end of the season after becoming unsettled by reported interest from Real Madrid and Juventus during his spell on the sidelines with injury.

However, the arrival of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in January has transformed the Red Devils fortunes as they close in on a top-four spot in the Premier League.

Pogba's burgeoning partnership with the Portugal international and the form of attacking trio Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood has created major optimism for the future.

And according to The Atheltic's David Ornstein, Pogba has now expressed his delight that Jadon Sancho could be joining the already potent attacking options for the 2020/21 season.

"Somebody has told me that he's even expressed excitement at the idea, I stress the idea possibility, of playing with Jadon Sancho," Ornstein said on their official podcast.

With Pogba now likely to stay, Fred's new-found form, along with Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay signing new contracts, Solskjaer is believed to be prioritising new attacking signings instead of midfield options.

AFC Ajax star Donny van de Beek and Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish were touted as their primary targets but Ornstein suggests the recent performances from his team has seen Solskjaer reevaluate his plans.

"We're not saying that's definitely going to happen but that would appear to suggest Manchester United's midfield certainly now has the numbers in so I don't see recruitment coming in there.

"Perhaps that might move the conversation away from Jack Grealish or anybody else, Donny van de Beek etc."

United will face off against Villa on Thursday evening with a chance to move within one point of fourth-placed Leicester City.
